Supporting International Students with Gale’s Language Tools and Non-English Sources

This session will help librarians prepare to orient international students to academic research databases, through the use of Gale’s built-in translation features. Review how to change the database’s language for easier navigation, how to translate journal articles into a preferred language, and how to listen to a translated article. We’ll share tips for locating non-English content within Gale databases, and take a tour of Informe Academico for scholarly articles published in Spanish and Portuguese.

In this session, Oregon’s Gale training specialist Stacey Knibloe will start with a brief overview the Gale library databases available to Oregon libraries. The remainder of the session will cover
• Using Opposing Viewpoints to gain reliable, balanced information about current issues
• How to find news and information originally written in Spanish to expand library services to Spanish speakers
• Learning about the translation and accessibility tools embedded in all Gale databases
