ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services

The ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services supports library and information science workers in creating responsible and all-inclusive spaces that serve and represent the entire community.

ALA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion are fundamental values of the association and its members, and diversity is listed as one of ALA's Key Action Areas. The Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services uses a social justice framework to ensure the inclusion of diverse perspectives within our profession and association to best position ALA as a trusted, leading advocate for equitable access to library services for all.

ALA Intellectual Freedom 

ALA actively advocates in defense of the rights of library users to read, seek information, and speak freely as guaranteed by the First Amendment.

ALA Rainbow Round Table

Rainbow Round Table (RRT) of the American Library Association is committed to serving the information needs of the LGBTQIA+ professional library community, and the LGBTQIA+ information and access needs of individuals at large.

 

ALA Reference & User Services (RUSA)- Library Accessibility Toolkits

            ALA Spectrum Scholarship Program

The Spectrum Scholarship Program actively recruits and provides scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern and North African, and/or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students to assist them with obtaining a graduate degree and leadership positions within the profession and ALA.

Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC) EDI Committee

To support the work of the organization specifically as it relates to equity, diversity and inclusion. This may include but is not limited to: acting as consult to the board or other committees on equity, diversity and inclusion work, developing tools and learning opportunities related to equity, diversity and inclusion, and providing guidance on supporting new and existing members with an equity, diversity and inclusion lens.

National Associations of Librarians of Color (NALCO's):

Joint Council of Librarians of Color, Inc. (JCLC) - Founded in 2015 the Joint Council of Librarians of Color, Inc. (JCLC Inc.) mission is to address the professional and personal development, continuing education, and collegial networking needs/requirements of librarians of color and to promote library and information services to communities of color through targeted national conferences, programs and events.

American Indian Library Association (AILA) - AILA was founded in 1979 in conjunction with the White House Pre-Conference on Indian Library and Information Services on or near Reservations. At the time, there was increasing awareness that library services for Native Americans were inadequate. Individuals as well as the government began to organize to remedy the situation. An affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), the American Indian Library Association is a membership action group that addresses the library-related needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives. 

Asian Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) - APALA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing leadership opportunities through informed dialogue that addresses the needs of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander library workers and those who serve these communities.

Black Caucus American Library Association (BCALA)- Established in 1970, the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA), was formed to serve as an advocate for the development, promotion, and improvement of library services and resources to the nation’s African American community; and to provide leadership for the recruitment and professional development of African American librarians.

Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) - Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a volunteer-led library association that supports the professional development and research scholarship of CALA members, advocates Chinese American librarians in professional organizations, and enhances the leadership development of Chinese American librarians through training, mentoring, networking, and collaboration with colleagues in the United States and abroad.

REFORMAEstablished in 1971 as an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), REFORMA has actively sought to promote the development of library collections to include Spanish-language and Latino oriented materials; the recruitment of more bilingual and bicultural library professionals and support staff; the development of library services and programs that meet the needs of the Latino community; the establishment of a national information and support network among individuals who share our goals; the education of the U.S. Latino population in regards to the availability and types of library services; and lobbying efforts to preserve existing library resource centers serving the interests of Latinos.

IFLA is the global voice of libraries, representing the interests of the profession and working to improve services worldwide. We benefit from a strong membership, a vibrant professional community, and close collaboration with partners.

A podcast attempting to shine light on the radical inequities and the oppressive nature of the library profession, specifically as it pertains to BIPOC professionals and the communities they serve in the state of Oregon.

OLA Intellectual Freedom Committee

Exists to educate and support the value of intellectual freedom, and help provide public oversight of any potential violations of the First Amendment in Oregon libraries.

Libros for Oregon 

Libros for Oregon (LfO) is a project that aims to help libraries connect with excellent Spanish language library materials and make purchasing and cataloging accessible for all libraries.

REFORMA Oregon 

The state branch of the National REFORMA Organization. REFORMA Oregon is a professional organization for librarians and library staff who serve the Spanish-speaking and Latine communities.

OLA Support Staff Division 

SD will provide a forum in order to encourage new ideas, discuss concerns, and solve problems while envisioning and adapting to changes in the profession.  SSD's goal is to inspire and promote professional growth through networking, conferences, workshops, and mentoring.
